4. PROPERTY & EQUIPMENT The following table sets forth our property and equipment by class as of December 31, 2019 and 2018, in thousands:
For additions to property and equipment as a result of 2018 acquisitions, see Note 17 – Business Combinations. Total property and equipment, net as of December 31, 2018 excludes $0.9 million of assets held for sale related to a property acquired in the USI acquisition in which management committed to a plan of sale in the fourth quarter of 2018. These assets held for sale are included in prepaid expenses and other current assets on the Consolidated Balance Sheet as of December 31, 2018. These assets were sold during the second quarter of 2019 and no gain or loss was recognized on the sale. Depreciation expense was $31.9 million, $23.7 million, and $13.5 million for the years ended December 31, 2019, 2018, and 2017, respectively. |
